OUR meteorological misery continues, but Met Eireann assures us we have entered a "transitional period", with icy gales and downpours becoming less frequent.
Indeed so many aspects of life these days could be described as transitional that we should be used to the idea by now.
Reports from around the country read like bulletins from a war front, with people in some parts suffering more than others. The deployment of troops, sand-bagging and gritting adds to the sense of a country on a war footing, and yet visitors from places accustomed to weather conditions far more extreme cannot understand how we slip so easily into chaos.
