Unseemly pitch fracas
As a Clare hurler and Clare manager, and more recently as manager of the Dublin senior hurling team, Anthony Daly has earned his place as an Irish sporting icon. It was a pity to see a man of his stature involved in a sideline altercation at a match between his own club, Clarecastle, and Kilmaley.
Almost everybody has seen pictures of the incident, but examining what happened and deciding what action to take, if any, is for the GAA authorities, not the public, to decide.
Very likely, most GAA supporters would prefer to forget it. The Kilmaley coach, Niall Romer, may well have summed up their opinion with his comments: "Nothing really . . . part and parcel of the game". But was he right?
