True sporting heroes
Our warm congratulations to Kilkenny -- the Princes of Hurling -- as they celebrate deservedly collecting their 34th All-Ireland title. Our hearts go out to valiant Galway who made the black and amber men work hard for this replay victory and brought us hurling with verve and style throughout 2012.
Yesterday's fare did not have the heart-stopping excitement of the drawn game three weeks ago at Croke Park. But it still brought fierce endeavour, courage, dash and colour to remind us that hurling is the greatest field game of them all.
On the day Kilkenny showed their superior style and strategy. It is another stupendous achievement for manager Brian Cody, who guided his team to a ninth All-Ireland. He has forgotten more about hurling than many of his rivals will ever know.
