Tragedy in Denver: guns in our sights
"There are going to be other days for politics," said US President Barack Obama yesterday, as hostilities in the 2012 race for the White House were suspended in a mark of respect for the victims of the Denver shooting.
Mr Obama was striking a tone of solemnity and spoke of his shock and sadness. However, the sentiment voiced by tough-talking Michael Bloomberg, mayor of New York -- the home of zero-tolerance -- might have been more constructive given America's complex, and unremittingly destructive relationship with the gun.
Mr Bloomberg baldly stated what millions more were thinking.
