Suicide -- it's good to talk

Suicide remains the great unmentionable in Irish life.

Despite a much greater willingness to discuss the problem in recent years, coroners will clutch at almost any straw to avoid bringing in a suicide verdict at inquests.

According to the most recent CSO figures, there were 525 suicides recorded in this country in 2011.
