Students have suffered enough incompetence
Ruairi Quinn probably doesn't like to remember signing the pre-election pledge with the Union of Students in Ireland not to increase college fees. Since then, Mr Quinn has rather feebly said the promise only stood if Labour achieved a single-party government.
Communications Minister Pat Rabbitte has also explained away broken promises on child benefit by saying: "Isn't that what you tend to do during an election?"
That may be, but what you're supposed to do when you're in government is provide competent administration of state bodies and government departments.
