Speaking and acting as one
HOPEFULLY by this morning, the last Irish passport holders held in the Be'er Sheva detention camp in southern Israel will have either arrived home, or be well on their way.
In other ways, Israel has shown how little respect it has for Irish passports and it is hard to understand why our Government feels it is so important to keep that issue separate from the events in the early hours of Monday morning and the subsequent imprisonment of Irish citizens. Both actions were born of arrogance and contempt.
People are entitled to their indignation, whether it be directed at the Israeli military for its botched boarding of the Turkish aid ship, or at voyagers who challenged Israel's right to defend itself from terrorist intrusions.
