THE Anglo Tapes are another reminder of just how much we lost when we bailed out the bank. The €30bn pumped into that single institution represents a heart-breaking lost opportunity. It could pay the bill for policing the country or teaching support for children with special needs for more than 20 years.
Were we minded to do so, we could have built an Aviva stadium in every county and used the change to build a school and swimming pool to boot. Alternatively, we could simply have given every adult €10,000 in spending money.
That's a lot of moolah, as David Drumm might say.
