Sandy gives a taste of day after tomorrow

THE statistics are stark and frightening. Especially for those who were in the direct path of the benignly named Hurricane Sandy.

More than seven million American homes were left without power in seven states, including 92,000 in New Jersey.

A total of 284,000 homes -- worth an estimated $87bn -- were trapped in the storm's relentless path.
