Pressure of points race should be relieved
Between now and June, the subject of education will be more to the forefront of discussion than at any other time of year. The discourse will centre on the Leaving Certificate examination in June and the prospects of the candidates in the 'points race'.
Every year, these candidates get the best advice: sleep well, take some exercise, stay calm, don't work too hard. Every year, thousands ignore it. They behave as if their entire futures rested on their exam results.
That is not true, but it is immensely difficult to remove the stress they suffer or even to alleviate it. Now they can hope for relief of the pressure from a source they themselves might consider unlikely.
