New jobs plan deserves praise
The Government's "action plan for jobs", launched yesterday, has one overwhelming merit which puts its deficiencies in perspective.
Among the scores upon scores of measures which it proposes in the fight to reduce unemployment, almost every one is not only a relevant but an integral part of any recovery programme.
It has taken the Coalition a year to come to this point. It might have done better to delay publishing the documents on the same subject which we have seen in the meantime, and wait until it could make a proper assessment of the home and international economic situation. In the event, the picture has grown constantly gloomier. To their credit, the authors of this document have taken that into account.
