Nation stands with Noonan in his grief
Acts of public service come in many shades. One of the most inspirational occurred when Michael Noonan spoke with restrained, but palpable agony about the effect of the descent of his clearly beloved wife into the darkness of Alzheimer's.
In doing so he shone a light for others who had suffered the experience of seeing loved ones walk into a similar shadow-land. Suddenly those who had been dealing with this trauma as individuals, or isolated family groupings, felt they were no longer quite so alone. Now, in his own time of grief, Mr Noonan too should not feel he is alone. He has the sympathies and the support of a nation.
