Maths and science boost gives hope for our future
GOOD news about our economy or our education system has been decidedly scarce of late. That makes it all the more pleasing to learn that an international survey shows what strengths our universities have in mathematics and electrical engineering.
The new league table rates the world's top 600 universities in 26 subject areas. It finds that five Irish institutions rank in the top 200 for electrical engineering. They are Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin, University College Cork, NUI Galway and the Dublin Institute of Technology.
Trinity, meanwhile, scores spectacularly in mathematics, at 15th in the world.
