Marking women's day

A husband was heard approaching his wife on the need for International Women's Day. Her reply was that as men had appropriated the other 364 out of every year, the answer should be obvious.

But it does say much about the direction society has taken that there is still a need to draw attention to the massive inequalities that women must endure.

The glass ceiling is very much in place. While there is lip-service paid to equality, every step along the road to reaching parity with men in the workplace has been met with fierce resistance. Even today there are big gaps in pay and a significant under-representation of women at in key positions.
