Lack of resources hampers probes

WHAT hope has Ireland of seriously prosecuting white collar crime when the watchdog tasked with policing our companies has only one accountant and six solicitors?

Yesterday, the Director of Corporate Enforcement, Ian Drennan, made a modest appeal for five forensic accountants to add to its current complement of one.

Mr Drennan, launching his first annual report, appealed for more in-house accountancy expertise as part of a strategic shift within the office to bring more high profile prosecutions.
