It's still your move, Ceann Comhairle
CEANN Comhairle Sean Barrett's statement about the bitter row between himself and the opposition was helpful. But it failed to address two crucial points and doubts persist about his tenure as Dáil chairman.
The coming days will reveal whether Mr Barrett can resolve his difficulties with Fianna Fáil and Sinn Féin. If both parties' doubts about him persist, he cannot continue in office.
Mr Barrett has always been dedicated to upholding the relevance and dignity of our democratic parliament. And he has not always been given full cooperation and respect from his Dáil colleagues since taking up office in March 2011.
