Hail to the genius of McGinley, Cody and Co
DUBLIN's Paul McGinley called on his Gaelic Games team experience to mould the 12 players from across Europe in that most individualistic of all sports - golf - into a superb winning team. The golfers of Europe will long be hailed as heroes. And as those golfers, including Irish superstars Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell, were locked in a prolonged battle in Gleneagles, Scotland, back in Croke Park more history was being made.
Brian Cody's Kilkenny saw off a hugely talented Tipperary side and another superstar, Henry Shefflin, claimed a unique 10th All-Ireland medal as a player.
Cody set many sports fans thinking as he questioned why Kilkenny's winning ways should ever end. It again sets the bar high for other hurling counties.
