Grotesque CRC pension pot must be returned
Justifiable public disgust at the €742,000 pension package paid to former Central Remedial Clinic chief executive Paul Kiely has led to widespread calls for him to return the money. The effrontery of the package, given that it was paid for out of public donations, has fuelled the public's fury and has caused so much damage to the now besmirched brand of the CRC.
Mr Kiely, having clearly misled the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) last December, is rightly the subject of public and political criticism. He should immediately take steps to return the money paid to him and he should also make himself available to the PAC to account for his earlier incomplete statements.
News that other substantial payments are now also under investigation is unsurprising.
