Good luck to €94M winner - but is this jackpot a bit too generous?

ONCE more Lotto fever stalks the land with news of a major win of just under €94m for a mystery winner somewhere in the greater Dublin area in the EuroMillions draw. For many of us, who can become confused handling much beyond calculating the change from a €50 note, it is an extraordinary sum – though there was a time when it would hardly have covered the chewing gum budget of some of our bankers and property developers

A win of this magnitude will undoubtedly totally change the life of the winner and their immediate and perhaps extended family. It is never a good time to be a killjoy – much less now as the winner contemplates a whole new world of opportunity and enjoyment.

But many of us will also concede that this winning sum is too enormous for just one prize. Again we must reflect that a series of much smaller prizes would spread the potential for joyous transformation across a larger number of people in these times of recession.
