Future of online trading relies on data security
THE future is digital. It's a statement we hear everywhere in Ireland today. It's in the Government urging small firms to start e-businesses. It's in the Revenue strong-arming us into paying our property tax online. It's in the creation of internet startups that our state agencies are pursuing so single-mindedly.
There can be no mistaking it: the internet is now official policy.
But for 70,000 SuperValu and AXA customers, it's a double-edged sword. While specific victims of Ireland's most serious internet hacking case in years have not yet emerged, tens of thousands are now watching their bank accounts and credit card statements like hawks.
