Funds needed for children's hospice
It may be a cliché, but the old saying that the true measure of a civilised society is how its treats it weakest and most vulnerable members is no less true for all that. As we report today, the HSE has yet to provide the €1.4m which the LauraLynn House hospice for dying children needs to help fund its annual operating costs.
LauraLynn House is the only hospice for dying children in the State. It first opened its doors last September and since then it has cared for more than 100 terminally ill children.
The demand for its services is continuing to rise with more 350 children dying in Ireland every year from terminal illnesses. Children have travelled from as far as Donegal to benefit from the services provided by LauraLynn House.
