Filicide incomprehensible to any normal parent

The tragic deaths of 10-year-old Eoghan Chada and his five-year-old brother Ruairi has left so many people, family, friends, neighbours and indeed the wider community feeling helpless. This was the first occasion in which the gardai issued a nationwide Child Rescue Ireland appeal for missing children when their father Sanjeev failed to return home after taking the boys bowling on Sunday.

It showed that the authorities were quickly aware of the threat to the children and took the appropriate and swift response necessary. Sadly it was not enough to save the two young lives.

In many such cases of what has come to be termed 'murder/suicide' the parent who kills their children also kills themselves. In this case it appears that Sanjeev Chada was attempting to do this when he crashed his car in Westport on Monday.
