Among the individuals who bear a special share of responsibility for the excesses of the boom and the origins of the crash are Bertie Ahern and Sean Quinn senior. They have something else in common: something deeply disturbing for a country struggling to fight its way out of an economic and ethical hole.
Both are in denial. Both appear unable to admit, to themselves or the nation, that they have done anything wrong. And both have responded to their plight by lashing out at others.
