Editorial: See the future today through the joy and exuberance of youth

Ireland's young people are brimming with brilliant ideas and if anyone doubts that all they need to do is take themselves down to the Main Hall of the RDS in Ballsbridge, Dublin to the BT Young Scientist of the Year.

As we know from previous years, this annual event, now in its 50th year, attracts the brightest and the best from schools all over the country who come to display their projects, from the truly innovative to the truly wacky.

Previous winners and contestants have gone on to become tech millionaires and leaders in various scientific fields.
