Editorial: Policy of attracting high-value companies is paying off

Every new job is important to the economy, so the news that the US electronics firm Tyco is to create 500 in Cork by the end of 2017 has to be gratifying.

Just six years ago, in 2008, the same firm was going in the opposite direction when 320 jobs were lost in its manufacturing facility and outsourced to cheaper economies.

While it would be satisfying to believe that global multinationals are reversing this trend, this would not seem to be the case.
