Editorial: Louise's victory shows the state in shameful light

The victory of abuse victim Louise O'Keeffe in the European Court of Human Rights has exposed the very real problem of church/state collaboration in areas of Irish life, particularly in education.

Ms O'Keeffe sued the Irish State for abuse at the hands of a lay teacher in her school.

The State said it was not responsible, arguing that national schools were the responsibility of the boards of management, usually headed and controlled by the Catholic Church.
