Many questions about water charges remain unanswered

AT LAST we have a ball-park figure for what we can expect in our water charges bill.

The charges will kick in from October 1 and the first bill will drop in January 2015. Defending the process yesterday, the Taoiseach Enda Kenny said the first quarterly bill was likely to average €60. On a later occasion, as he explained the complications of EU rules on government subventions to semi-state companies like Irish Water, and their impact on how government debt is calculated, Mr Kenny again estimated the annual average bill at €240.

These statements clearly chimed with this newspaper's revelations on the issue, including our prediction yesterday that the average yearly bill would be around €248 for a household of two adults and two children.
