Cutting posts but not salaries

Health Minister James Reilly has announced what he calls "a key step along the road to the establishment of a health service that has as its highest value the best outcomes for patients".

Sadly, this statement will evoke more scepticism than enthusiasm.

There is no doubting Dr Reilly's commitment to the ideal of a world-class service, but the road of which he speaks will be very long and there is no guarantee that it will lead to the desired destination.
