But Taoiseach, we do worry

IN defending his actions as finance minister, while admitting that mistakes were made, has the Taoiseach "set the record straight", as he hopes, or has he failed in a crude attempt to pre-empt the findings of forthcoming banking inquiries, as the opposition claims?

By bluntly refusing to rule out a reduction in the state old-age pension for the very poor, has he once again shot himself in the foot?

These are the preoccupations in Ireland, as Europe remains in the grip of a debt crisis, bombs go off in the streets of Athens and the euro languishes against the dollar.
