Posturing by ministers who assert loudly that not one jot of the Budget's provisions can be changed make a telling contrast with the drip-drip of disclosures about how that poor document came into being.
It seems clear that talks between FG and Labour almost broke down on the weekend before the Budget. Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Tanaiste Eamon Gilmore patched up a compromise. But the Coalition's future was at risk.
This bodes ill for the Government's stability. And that stability can only be enhanced by wise decisions and common purpose. It will not be enhanced by ministerial machismo.
