Apathy is the enemy of any healthy democracy
It is two years since the "democratic revolution" which Enda Kenny said heralded his and the Fine Gael-Labour Coalition's ascent to office. We have come a long way since then, and in many other ways, we have not come far at all.
Austerity is still the order of the day, the country is still in the economic doldrums, politicians are still held in low esteem by the public, economic growth is anaemic, emigration is still an ever-present blight.
It is against this backdrop that the Fine Gael-Labour Coalition faces its first significant electoral test since the general election.
