Another horror for the children
GIVEN all that has been said and done about the cruelties inflicted on children in the past, it would be easy to assume that all victims of institutional abuse have been catered for by the Redress Board and the Child Abuse Commission.
Not so; there is another category of institutions in which children were placed and sometimes abused, which were run neither by Church nor State.
It is, therefore, virtually impossible to identify an individual or organisation to hold accountable for what happened in these places. Consequently, they do not fall directly within the ambit of the board or commission.
