Action needed in our universities

One of the top guides to university performance, the QS World University Rankings, has downgraded three Irish institutions. Trinity College Dublin has fallen 13 places to No 65, University College Dublin 20 places to No 134, and NUI Galway from No 232 to No 298.

Is this part of a trend? There is evidence to suggest that it is. And if so, we need to ask questions and take action.

Irish academics are extremely well paid by any standards. Do they give us value for money? And how do they spend their time in their colleges? Teaching, research, or special projects?
