A step forward, then one back
THERE was a general air of unease yesterday as world stocks fell. It was another day of reminders of how fragile and tentative global recovery is likely to be.
Two steps forward, one step back . . . we must look for encouraging signs wherever we can find them.
Reports from the US suggest a touch of fatigue in the global economy. Ireland's giant building materials group CRH has warned that, because of a disappointing performance in its American materials division, it looks unlikely that the company's performance this year will be as good as had been expected.
