Editorial: Our stoic endurance deserves much praise
THE old maxim of 'self-praise is no praise' is not old for nothing. But even the most solid of rules will allow an occasional exception and this weekend is one such case. The descent into the EU-IMF bailout in November 2010 was a defining moment of awfulness in Ireland's history.
Tomorrow the three-year bailout, with its attendant close economic supervision, formally ends and the Irish people, financially poorer but hopefully richer in character, can begin a new journey of hope.
This is a good opportunity to look at ourselves in a less blameful and harsh light.
