Perhaps the most important thing I do as a political leader is that I try to make sure that every week, I visit a different community and talk to people about their concerns, but also about their hopes for the future.

With no cameras or journalists involved, and no election to canvass for, the depth and directness of people always has a big impact on me.

They are not making demands for a long list of unaffordable expenditure, and they have a genuine awareness of the international economic climate, including the threat of Brexit.
