Health service and Bus Eireann show we need an economic input into industrial relations

Ireland needs urgently to increase the economics content in industrial relations.

The Jim Larkin karaoke competitions generate heat rather than light. Weary industrial relations practitioners emerge in the hours of darkness into the glare of TV lights, wave a piece of paper and announce peace in our time. Industrial relations groupies applaud.

For the rest of society this short-sighted conduct of industrial relations is expensive.
