Sophie Gorman: Time to draw a line under this uncultured debacle and get on with a worthy festival
Patricia Ryan had no choice but to resign from her position as CEO of Limerick City of Culture. Her authority over what should have been her year-long festival had been entirely undermined.
Firstly, the December 30 resignation of the festival's Artistic Director Karl Wallace and the resignations of two of his senior colleagues -- International Programmer Jo Mangan and Commissioning and Legacy Programmer Maeve McGrath -- brought chaos the morning after the grand opening of the festival on New Year's Eve.
Then the fact that she relied heavily on Pat Cox, Chairman of the Limerick City of Culture board, and to other members of the board to defend her position rather than take ownership of her own festival showed an absence of authority when it was desperately needed.
