Say what you will about our Budget, it didn’t cause an emerging-market style currency crisis. It didn’t prompt an alarmed intervention by the IMF. It didn’t cause the Central Bank to have to intervene with an emergency bond-buying programme. It didn’t cause the near-collapse of several pension funds. Next to all that, a row over the price of concrete seemed almost quaint.

Indeed, the Budget night edition of Prime Time almost felt like Winning Streak. They even had the Winning Streak-style observer from KPMG or EY or one of those firms that run the world. His job on Prime Time was to tell everyone how much they had won in the Budget.
