Simon Coveney: We're breaking down the walls that are slowing supply of homes
Last week, Paschal Donohoe and I announced specific infrastructure projects that will unlock housing supply under a €226m infrastructure fund.
Infrastructural blockages have long been identified as an obstacle to developing significant housing sites, particularly in Dublin and other major cities.
We know from the Dublin Housing Supply Co-ordination Taskforce that without the right supporting infrastructure, housing developments were either finding it difficult to get permission or they weren't viable because of the cost of infrastructure which the local authorities could not afford to build. The lack of infrastructure is impeding investment essential to providing large-scale housing developments.
