The imaginatively named 'Railway Field' on our farm in Enfield ran up to the Sligo railway line. When we were children, many long days involved walking up the field, passing the badger sets, climbing over the dilapidated fence, crossing the railway and landing on the banks of the Royal Canal. We'd roam up and down the towpath for hours.

There was always a gang and we could explore, free and wild, in a life alien to the over-protected, constantly guarded children of today.
