IT'S one thing to read about someone being killed in cold blood, it's quite another to watch it happen. But this was what unfolded in the Regency Hotel murder trial last week as shocking video footage revealed the moment a father-of-two was brought down by a gunman's bullet before being shot in the face as he lay mortally wounded.

The facts of this now notorious gangland raid may have become familiar but for those in court, the grainy CCTV clips played on large monitors laid bare for the first time the full brutality of that afternoon.

In the video, the killers, wearing dark helmets and dressed in Garda "tactical" outfits, seemed unmoved by the chaos around them as they walked through the hotel with assault rifles pointed straight ahead, as if stalking prey.
