Prodigal's return has just turned problematic

On July 10, Wayne Rooney returned to Everton after 13 years playing with Manchester United, beaming, ecstatic to have signed a deal he called a "no-brainer".

It was the most romantic move of the summer.

Just 53 days later, he was spending the night in the Middlewich Custody Suite in Cheshire after being arrested at 2am and charged with drink-driving.
