President Higgins' high-handed sermons highlight his lack of inspiring leadership

This week Uachtaran na hEireann Michael D Higgins announced phase two of his grand plan to shape Ireland's civic society, during a speech to an assembled audience at St Vincent de Paul offices in Dublin.
The speech - outlining the "Ethics Initiative" - garnered a few headlines and there was lots of nodding in agreement from the commentariat, as our President proclaimed that, as a society, we had learned little from our most recent economic travails. Lesson one, greed is not good.
While everything he said may be true, the manner in which he directs his message to the general public is increasingly frustrating.
