Two weeks after IAG got its bid for Aer Lingus approved by the airline's board, we might have expected things to have moved quickly on.

But this is the world of aviation, where being cleared to take off is not as simple for an airline as it is for an aircraft.

IAG was never going to find the task of winning the hearts and minds of the greater Irish public easy, especially a public who feel they still own Aer Lingus, whatever the mathematics of the boardroom.
