Ireland, even with their well-publicised front row difficulties, are ahead of England in rugby's world rankings, and justifiably so. Yet it is safe to say that unless Declan Kidney and his coaching colleagues can solve the scrum problems which revolve around (but do not exclusively concern) tight-head prop John Hayes, then a serious challenge for the sport's Holy Grail, the World Cup in New Zealand, is unlikely.
