The Roman statesman Cicero tells us it is a mistake to compel others to believe and live the way we do, counting it as one of the six recurrent mistakes of humankind.

Other errors include the illusion that personal gain arises from crushing people, or insisting that something is impossible because we cannot accomplish it (who could have foreseen space travel, or artificial intelligence?). Some say those six concepts he identified are all the philosophy anyone needs.
