Watching the liberal prima donnas who dominate Irish political punditry struggle to make sense of the surge in Peter Casey's support has been like watching chimpanzees trying to figure out how to use an iPad.

There they sit, jabbing fingers at the screen as the numbers and letters scroll by, baffled. The problem is that they're intent on over complicating what is really quite simple. A significant proportion of the electorate has simply reached the end of its tether with a cosseted elite which increasingly dominates their lives and which regards all criticism as ill-informed and its critics as morons. Having reached a point of maximum power, this elite failed to realise it was also the point of maximum danger.
