Will Alan Kelly be the last leader of the Labour Party? After last weekend’s dreary party conference, followed by his schoolboy spat with Micheál Martin in the Dáil last Wednesday, voters could be forgiven for asking: Is there any point in Labour?

Judging by the more recent opinion polls — showing it tanking to 3pc — the continued existence of Ireland’s oldest political party is precisely the question voters are asking. And they are answering in the negative.
