It would be a pity if the RTÉ licence fee and its collection dominate discussion about the imminent, if overdue, publication of the Future of Media Commission report.

There are so many larger and more important changes afoot in Irish media that it could reasonably be asked whether there is a need for public broadcasting anymore.
